That is the link to a review of Joan Breton Connelly’s newest book, Portrait of a Priestess. I’ll tell you one thing, it’s on MY Amazon.com wishlist! I haven’t read it yet, so I can’t review it myself, but if you buy it, tell me about it.
The biggest negative (for me) in the review is that Connelly is less than interested in talking about sex workers. Now you might think to yourself – hey, would you talk about sexuality in a Portrait of a Nun? But then you should smack yourself on the head and remember that we live in a different world! Sexuality was certainly not excluded from the sacred in the ancient world, and even if it wasn’t big for the priestesses she’s talking about, the explanation of why not deserves some space!
On the upside, I am totally excited about being able to fit myself into a priestess’s slippers via this author’s research.
